How To

How do you plan your first Cruise vacation?

Planning a cruise can be like planning any trip. There are so many things to consider: where should you go, what activities should you include, how much money to spend, etc. However, if you're new to cruising, there are some key differences when planning your first cruise. You won't want anything to miss because cruises are typically longer than land vacations (upto 3 weeks). These tips will help you make your cruise even more enjoyable.

  1. Start early - Book your cruise at least 6 months before departure. You can save money and avoid crowds by booking early. Additionally, you will have ample time for research on the ship, itinerary and ports as well as activities. You might even find a discount on your airfare!
  2. Pick a destination. It doesn't really matter what port you choose, just choose one that appeals. There are lots of reasons why people love cruising to different destinations. Some love to travel while others prefer to relax and unwind on the boat. Whatever your preferences, you should remember which destination you would like to visit. A popular choice is a Caribbean island, followed closely by Europe and Alaska.
  3. Book a Suite - If money is not an issue, consider booking a suite. Suites include extra space, a private terrace, and additional amenities. They are usually available from $100-$300 per night, depending on the size of your room and the availability of suites during your sailing date.
  4. The weather forecast is important - Cruising is often associated to warm tropical climates. You should also check the weather forecasts of the ports on the day you plan to visit them. It's unpredictable in the ocean, especially in Antarctica or Alaska, so it is important to be aware of what the weather might be like before you book your cruise.
  5. Take only 10 things on your cruise. No need to take too many clothes or shoes with you. Pack everything in small bags that you can carry on. It is a good idea to bring layers of clothing because you might not be able access the laundry facilities at your destination.
  6. Do your homework - Before you buy tickets, read reviews online. It is important to understand what their cancellation policies are, as well as the pricing policies.
  7. Don't miss these must-see spots - Visit each port at least once. Each has its unique charm and culture, so take advantage of all the local sites.
